Project Details
This project involved comprehensive remediation and structural restoration on the Main Museum Floor (Area #1) to correct a storm drain pipe pitch and remove hazardous soil. All work was performed by licensed mold assessment, remediation, and general contractors. To meet a compressed timeline, the project was completed in just two weeks by utilizing double shifts. The initial phase included removing the flooring and safely storing glass door hardware, while concurrently repairing a sagging ceiling and installing new drywall. To ensure safety, the site was enclosed in an EPA-compliant plywood containment system with an isolation ante-room. Air quality was managed 24/7 using HEPA scrubbers and dehumidifiers.

The core work involved saw-cutting a 4-foot by 70-foot concrete section and excavating contaminated soil to a depth of 2 feet. The waste was manually transported to hazardous containers at the loading dock. Following excavation, the contractor installed a new three-pipe system pitched toward the ejector pumps. The area was backfilled with RCA, reinforced with 1/2-inch rebar, and finished with 6 inches of 5,000 psi concrete. After re-installing the glass doors and dismantling the containment, the concrete cured for 30 days under Masonite protection. Finally, the original vinyl and supplied carpet were permanently installed.
