Project Details
The Dolby Atmos system upgrade at the Museum of the Moving Image involved a comprehensive structural and technical installation performed exclusively during off-hours to maintain theater availability. The project began with the engineering and installation of supplemental framing, lateral supports, and 1/2-inch ceiling rods to securely manage new speaker loads. This structural work included building specialized housing for front-of-screen speakers, framing behind the theater screen, and custom supports for surround speakers on the side walls. To ensure acoustic precision, the team coordinated directly with Dave Berti of Dolby Atmos for layout, electrical integration, and final testing. Strict site protection was maintained throughout the process, with all theater seating wrapped in plastic, walkways covered in grip drop cloths, and scaffolding removed daily to ensure the space remained pristine for public use.
